TODD HULTMAN OF THE USA WINS INTERNATIONAL PRIZE FOR GLOBAL ISSUES STORY
INTERLAKEN, Switzerland (August 15, 2024)—Todd Hultman of the United States was recognized by the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) with its Star Prize for Trade, Economics and Global Issues, the organization’s honor for the best reporting on the theme in its worldwide competition. The award was announced at IFAJ’s World Congress in Interlaken, Switzerland, on August 15.
Hultman’s article, “Are Russian Farmers Outcompeting the World or Is Something Else Going On?” appeared on DTN/Progressive Farmer. Judges noted that it is “very well executed” and “uses the advantages of digital media,” and offers “an uncommon angle on migration.”
“Todd Hultman’s story brings readers on a thorough exploration of a very complicated topic and uses the power of digital media to tell the story in a compelling way,” notes Addy Rossi, IFAJ secretary-general. “It is an excellent example of reporting on the global theme of trade and economics.”
Jessica Ahedor of Ghana received a runner-up recognition in the Trade, Economics and Global Issues category for her “Soaring Prices and Dwindling Farm Yields Drive Growing Hunger in Ghana” article in The New Humanitarian. Ed White of Canada was recognized with a runner-up prize for “Today’s Economics Do Little to Protect Vulnerable Land” in The Western Producer.
Judges of the Trade, Economics and Global Issues category of the Star Prize were IFAJ President Lena Johansson of Sweden and Hansjürg Jäger of Switzerland.
