Members of the IFAJ executive committee were priviliged to be among 5,000 media representatives from 73 countries at the Green Week 2011 in Berlin, as guests of the organisers, Messe Berlin.
With all the figures in for the event, it has been announced that the attendance exceeded 415,000, and consumers spent 45 million euros at Green Week.
With 1,632 exhibitors from 57 countries (2010: 1,589/56 countries), it is the world’s largest consumer show for agriculture, food and horticulture.
It can also claim to be the world’s No 1 show of its kind for agricultural policy makers, visited by some 200 leading politicians and their delegations.
The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture attendance included some 50 ministers of agriculture and 500 board members and senior executives from food companies.
Around 1,000 representatives of politics, science and civil society took part in the International Agricultural Ministers’ Panel Discussion.
At the “3rd Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Summit”, ministers from some 50 countries discussed how world food supplies can be safeguarded.
The importance of partnerships and joint ventures to safeguard food supplies was discussed by 250 participants in the International Business Panel.
Jürgen Abraham, Chairman of the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries, said the food industry was able to engage in discussions with consumers, the media and politicians at Green Week, in order to inform them about the safety and quality of foodstuffs.
Green Week’s own hardworking media team produced 250 reports on the events of Green Week, some 750 topical press photos and more than 200 historic photos, 30 radio items and original sound recordings, and 70 minutes of footage from Green Week 2011, all available on the www.gruenewoche.com website.
Romania is the partner country of the Green Week 2012, which will take place from 20 to 29 January 2012 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
